Mining Natural Variation for Maize Improvement: Selection on Phenotypes and Genes
نویسندگان
چکیده
Maize is highly genetically and phenotypically diverse. Tropical maize and teosinte are important genetic resources that harbor unique alleles not found in temperate maize hybrids. To access these resources, breeders must be able to extract favorable unique alleles from tropical maize and teosinte from their population J. B. Holland ( ) · S. Genetic improvement of Grain Yield by Determination of Selection Index in Single Cross Hybrids of Maize (Zea mays L.)
Selection based on proper selection indices can be one of the most effective methods for indirect selection of yield and yield components, simultaneously. In order to determination of selection index for improvement of maize yield, 60 single cross maize hybrids were planted in two separate experiments (drought stress and normal conditions) based on randomized complete block design (RCBD) with t...
متن کاملMolecular population genetics of maize regulatory genes during maize evolution By
Maize was domesticated from its wild ancestor, teosinte, in southern Mexico between ~6,250 and ~10,000 years ago. The domestication of maize resulted in an extensive phenotypic change in female inflorescence (ear) structures from teosinte. MADS-box genes encode transcription factors which are key regulators of plant inflorescence and flower development. We examined DNA sequence variation in 32 ...
متن کاملA Gene-Oriented Haplotype Comparison Reveals Recently Selected Genomic Regions in Temperate and Tropical Maize Germplasm
The extensive genetic variation present in maize (Zea mays) germplasm makes it possible to detect signatures of positive artificial selection that occurred during temperate and tropical maize improvement. Here we report an analysis of 532,815 polymorphisms from a maize association panel consisting of 368 diverse temperate and tropical inbred lines. We developed a gene-oriented approach adapting...
متن کاملDiagnosis of the disease using an ant colony gene selection method based on information gain ratio using fuzzy rough sets
With the advancement of metagenome data mining science has become focused on microarrays. Microarrays are datasets with a large number of genes that are usually irrelevant to the output class; hence, the process of gene selection or feature selection is essential. So, it follows that you can remove redundant genes and increase the speed and accuracy of classification. After applying the gene se...
متن کاملThe Complex Inheritance of Maize Domestication Traits and Gene Expression
The genetic basis for morphological change in divergent species is a central question in evolutionary biology. The domestication of maize from its wild progenitor, teosinte, is an excellent system to address this question. We explore the large effect on domestication phenotypes of a poorly understood region of the maize genome using a chromosome five specific mapping population. Unlike other la...
